Urban heat island effect explained

UniSA PhD Candidate, Ehsan Sharifi, explains his work as a component of the Urban Micro Climates research project for the CRC Low Carbon Living initiative. Architectural building materials, surface temperature, urban spatial layout and metabolism all contribute to the accumulation of Heat in urban centres. This will become increasingly severe in coming decades, so how can we cool our cities down?
